The Comfort Quilt Committee delivers quilts to many
facilities in Port Alberni, Parksville, Qualicum and
Nanaimo. The need is tremendous and many people benefit from
our member's generosity.
If each member donated one quilt per year it would go a long
way to satisfying that need. During 2006 and thus far in
2007 we were able to deliver quilts to Echo Village, West
Haven, Hospital Nursery and Ty Watson Hospice in Port
Alberni, Eagle Park, Trillium Lodge and the SOS in
Parksville/Qualicum, Hospital Nursery, Cancer Clinic and
Haven Transition House in Nanaimo.
Comfort Quilt Workshop Day
Each year we will have a quilt making day at
Arrowsmith Hall in Coombs. Make a quilt for a baby or a
senior. Work in pairs or on your own. Come and help
out with the pressing and sandwiching. Come join the fun.
Bring something for a pot luck lunch-we will do these well
!!!
Pre-washed flannelette and cotton scraps for piecing , along
with batting and backing will be available at the hall on
that day. If you already have something in mind you may pick
up batting and backing at our guild meeting prior to the
quilting day.
Hope to see you on our Comfort Quilt Workshop Day. It is
lots of fun.
Guidelines for Comfort Quilts.
- Fabric: 100% cotton, prewashed.
- Batting and backing available at Guild meetings or
by giving us a call. If you have a quilt requiring
larger pieces just get in touch with us and we will help
you out.
- If you would like to make a top but don’t have
suitable fabric, we also have a supply of top fabrics that have
been donated and some panels. Come see us at the
meetings.
- Quilts can be hand or machine quilted, preferably no
more than 4" apart: Please no tying.
- Please do not use invisible thread, buttons or other embellishments
that might catch on little fingers or toes, or get in baby’s
mouth
- Don't forget to sew one of our beautiful labels onto
your quilt.
- Make sure to put your name into the draw when you
turn your quilt in. We do these draws several
times during the year.
- If you’ve started a comfort quilt and find you’re unable
to complete it let us know; we’ll find someone else to finish
it up.
